Fun Near Sherman Oaks and Studio City

We may forget, but we’re just a couple minutes from Universal Studios

Just a stone’s throw away from the neighborhoods of Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake and Valley Village, we often forget about Universal Studios. I recently visited there after years of absence from it. The park has greatly changed since I was last there. There is the “Mummy” ride, which takes you on a roller coaster that is not only scary going forward, but even scarier going backward.

After the park, we went to a lovely dinner at Wolfgang Puck and for a naughty dessert at Sparky’s mini-donuts. I have been dreaming about them ever since. They make any other doughnut take like liver. The best ever!

You’re so close. Give Universal a second glance. I had a great day.

Valley Village Hang For Artists, Actors and Me

In Valley Village on busy Riverside Drive, you do not expect to find a peaceful retreat for the price of a latte.

Normally, because the signs at Marie et. Cie. are tinged with desperation, imploring people to try out their store’s novelties, I would not have given it a try. But after several recommendations from regular customers, I decided to give it a whirl.

What I found was a serene, eclectic mix of delicious coffees, healthy treats and antiques. I half expected a starving poet to get up and recite their lousy prose. Fortunately, I was spared that torture and instead retreated to a private, undisturbed nook to indulge in a conversation with my friend.

My drink and healthy scone (although it didn’t taste like it) added to the Zen atmosphere as my blood pressure certainly dropped a few points, even though I was drinking caffeine.

Most of my family is from rural Northern California and next time I am missing them, I will go to Marie et. Cie, to get a taste of that vibe.
