Actor Ed Begley Jr., an avid environmentalist recently wrote a book entitled, “Ed Begley Jr.’s Guide to Sustainable Living.”   Mr. Begley has installed a gray water recycling system in his home.  The recycling system filters waste water from showers, bathtubs, sinks, dishwashers and washing machines for use in irrigation of fruit trees and vegetables in his garden.  Before it is reused, the water must pass through a series of filters to remove or kill any bacteria and contaminants in the water.  Conserving and recycling water is just one of the many tips on Green living offered in his Guide to Sustainable living.

This link will take you a tour of the Gray Water Recycling System recently installed at the Begley home.  For more information on this system go to www.reusegraywater.com

The lack of rainfall in California has caused many municipality’s water districts to place penalties on exceeding the limits set for household and business water usage.  So, a gray water system not only helps the environment, but the homeowner’s monthly budget as well.

Have you been dreaming about watching the sunset over the Pacific, while you are sipping a Mojito on your deck?  Too good to be true, not according to the latest real estate news from the Malibu Times!!!

According to an article by Rick Wallace,  Malibu sales volume is down 62 percent year to date and the median price has dropped 33 percent!   The volume is 75% below that of 2007. In  2007 Malibu hit near the billion dollar mark in single family home sales and this year through September the number was around $300 million. The inventory of homes currently for sale is 268 and only about 92 are projected to sell.  The condo market is very soft as well, with more foreclosures and short pays hitting the market. (The complete article can be viewed at www.malibutimes.com)

There is an upside here for the Buyer who has always felt priced out of the Malibu market.  Buyers are at a premium right now and Sellers are finally getting more realistic and motivated if they are serious about selling their homes.  If Malibu has been on your wish list this may be a great time to take a look at what is available in your price range.  Condos start in $500,000 range (a few foreclosures have been lower) and single family homes start in the $600,000 range (since there are some foreclosures and short pays out there).  This is a golden moment of opportunity in the Malibu market.
