Chatsworth residents will have a chance to ask all six City Council candidates about hometown issues as the Council District 12 campaign kicks off Wednesday, Jan. 5.

The candidates to succeed retiring Councilman Greig Smith are scheduled to share in their first joint public appearance at the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council. The meeting is not structured as a debate, but rather as an informal, get acquainted, question and answer session. Stakeholders are encouraged to ask questions focusing on Chatsworth issues.

The Neighborhood Council meets 7 p.m. at Lawrence Middle School, 10100 Variel Ave and is open to all. If you can’t attend, e-mail your questions to Email Chatsworth Council

The candidates will appear for a second time at a 6 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. forum, Jan. 31, at the Senior Activities Center, 10100 Balboa Blvd. in Granada Hills. That gathering will be sponsored by the neighborhood councils in District 12.

Here are the candidates in the order they will appear on the March 8 primary ballot:

  • Dinesh “Danny” Lakhanpal — Businessperson
  • Kelly M Lord, Jr. — Small Business Owner
  • Brad Smith — Neighborhood Council Boardmember
  • Navraj “Singh” Singh — Businessman/Restaurant Owner
  • Armineh Chelebian — Boardmember, Neighborhood Council
  • Mitchell Englander — Policeman/Councilmember Deputy

The election will be March 8, with a runoff on May 17 if no candidate wins a majority of the vote. The seven even-numbered City Council district seats are up for election. There are 15 seats on the Council.
