happinessHow to stay a little happier

Okay, today I start a weekly blog about little tips to a potentially happier existence. In these interesting times, people tend to worry, have anxiety and basically concentrate on the negative in their life. Not only is this unproductive, it perpetuates more of the same.

That said, today’s little tip is to stay in the now. When you are being choked by situations hanging around your neck, just step out of it and look at nature, or notice your surroundings. It is a nice tool to get away from something that is not happening at this moment, which is irrelevant anyway. Remember this quote:

“The greatest disappointments are those which never come.”

Paradise in a Cup

The best kept secret in the San Fernando Valley, located in Encino, is “The Chocolate Bar.” I really hope it will not be a secret for too long, because I want these ladies to thrive. They have ruined me for any other cup of hot chocolate forever.

The ladies at The Chocolate Bar are so sweet and make you feel like family. This is how they make their hot chocolate: They break up real chocolate (light, dark, white, bittersweet, etc.), put it into a saucepan, let it melt, then whisk in milk and any special flavor you want, including marshmallows or whipped cream. Each cup of hot chocolate takes them at least 5 minutes to make and leaves a lasting impression. I cannot drive by without having a cup. It costs less than a latte you might buy elsewhere.

The Chocolate Bar also has many other chocolate treats handsomely displayed throughout the store. Everyone who comes in is literally “a kid in a candy store.” The only thing about this wonderful place is it is 20 minutes from my Toluca Lake home. I hope they open another store near me. Actually, that might be a bit dangerous.
