“If it’s Friday it must be sushi!”

Zooma Sushi has been a fixture in Malibu since 1987. It is a spot I have been frequenting for many years.  Quite a few warm friendships have been nurtured at the sushi bar watching Chef Toshi prepare dinner. Toshi, who hails from Tokyo, has been buying the fish, planning the menu and creating the sushi dishes for 23 years.

Recently, owner Peter Soli, remodeled the interior of the restaurant giving it a sleek minimalist look and adding more comfy chairs to the bar. In addition to a few indoor tables, there is  an outdoor patio which is shared with the Corral Beach Cantina That comes in handy if you have non-sushi eating friends (imagine that?).

There are daily specials at IMG_1443_2Zooma including Live Scallops, and occasionally Blue Fin tuna. Also there are some awesome rolls like the Double Trouble which is prepared with seared Albacore in a special sauce.

The prices are moderate, the quality good and all the basics (tuna, yellow tail, salmon, etc.) are available most of the time. The menu is currently being expanded  to include more varieties of fish and some  creative new rolls. Toshi is always ready to create something special for you.

A good selection of wine, beer and saki (hot or cold) are available and the Cantina has a full bar. Reservations are recommended for tables and large parties. The sushi bar gets busy on the weekends so you may need to sign in and wait a bit; while waiting you can enjoy a drink on the patio.

Zooma Sushi is open for dinner 7 days a week Sun.-Thursday 5:05 -10/ Friday & Saturday 5:05-10:30. Located at 29350 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu. For Reservations 310-457-4131 Zooma Sushi

No Fantasy Football in 2011!

FANTASY FOOTBALL 8 BILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS?fantasy-Football

Around the water coolers and coffee machines this morning, by far the most popular question was, how did your fantasy team do this week? My response was this, “one of my teams won and one of them lost.” Fantasy Football has gone main stream. Once an elusive boys club, even my girlfriend has a fantasy football team this year! I even heard one of the girls at the office say “That cute guy on my fantasy team really sucked this week”.

This summer, as I was determining which fantasy league I would conquer this season, I read an article which talked about not having fantasy football in 2011. I was shocked and scared! I could not imagine not spending two hours on Saturday night perfecting my Sunday line up. The article spoke of fantasy football advertising and jobs to be in a staggering neighborhood of 8 billion! Now that, I believe.

If the powers that be think that the system needs revision or adjustment, I disagree. Fantasy football is so easy to understand even the ladies are into it. Not having Fantasy football in 2011 might send this country into a recession so deep it would take us having to sell the U.S. to the Chinese to recover. Oh, wait we already did that. Good Luck tonight all you Aaron Rodgers fans.
